Zachary firefighters extinguish blaze at plant near Mount Pleasant; cause of incident remains unclear
In the early hours of Thursday, February 27, a fire broke out at the Georgia-Pacific paper mill located in Zachary, Louisiana, United States, near Mount Pleasant – Zachary Road. Zachary Fire Department officials reported that the fire started around 1:32 a.m.
Emergency crews were able to contain the blaze quickly, but no details were provided regarding the cause of the fire.
RECENT INVESTMENTS
The company has recently made significant investments, totaling over US$50 million, at its Port Hudson mill in Zachary in 2023. These investments greatly enhanced the company’s retail consumer towel business.
The investments included upgrades to increase capacity and improve the capability of existing converting equipment, as well as enhancements to internal infrastructure.
