Cascades to permanently shut down Niagara Falls plant after nearly 40 years
Closure will impact 123 jobs as company seeks to boost performance in packaging division

Cascades Inc. has announced the permanent closure of its manufacturing facility in Niagara Falls, N.Y., ending nearly four decades of operations at the site. The company stated that production will cease no later than September 3, resulting in the loss of 123 jobs and an estimated closure cost of $5 million.
Cascades, which produces cardboard packaging, toilet paper, paper towels, and other paper products, said the move is part of a broader strategy to improve performance in its packaging segment.
Executive vice-president Jean-David Tardif says it the closure was a difficult decision. But he says it was an essential part of the company’s efforts to improve performance in its packaging segment.
