Pulp & Paper Canada has recognized four mills from the Quebec-based Paper Excellence Group for their exemplary health and safety standards, placing them at the top of its annual rankings. These accolades highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe working environment across its facilities.
In the A category, which includes facilities with more than 80,000 worker hours per month, Domtar’s Windsor paper mill was named the safest mill. Meanwhile, in category C, covering facilities with less than 50,000 worker hours per month, Resolute mills claimed the top three positions. The Saint-Félicien pulp mill secured first place, with the Alma and Dolbeau paper mills finishing in second and third places, respectively.
Richard Tremblay, president of the Paper Excellence Group’s Pulp and Tissue business unit, emphasized the collective effort behind these achievements: “Above all, this is a team success. We are focused on creating and maintaining a safe workplace and holding everyone accountable for safety. Our goal is zero injuries at every location. This is an area where we will not compromise. We should be proud of this recognition because it goes to show what is possible when everyone is fully engaged in an active and caring environment”.
The Safest Mill awards, presented annually by Pulp & Paper Canada, rank participating mills by their safety performance, specifically the total number of recordable incidents, with the aim of highlighting those with the lowest rates.
Steve Henry, president of the Paper Excellence Group’s Paper and Packaging business unit, expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying: “We are grateful to Pulp & Paper Canada for this recognition. It reflects the excellent work our employees in Quebec have done to ensure we are providing a safe work environment. It is nice to win awards, but it is even nicer to get our people home safely to their families each day. Nothing we do across our enterprise is worth getting hurt”.
