On July 1st, Beto Abreu took over as president of Suzano, the world’s largest market pulp producer. Abreu brings over 30 years of experience from companies such as Rumo, Shell, and Raízen. He succeeds Walter Schalka, who led Suzano for 11 years and will now join the company’s board of directors and various committees.
Abreu’s main focus will be to continue Suzano’s strategic plan, particularly the completion of the Cerrado Project, which includes the world’s largest single-line pulp production facility in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil.
Suzano highlighted Abreu’s ability to balance results with people-focused management practices and the strengthening of partnerships, noting his extensive experience in leading merger and acquisition transactions. Schalka stated: “His experience and strategic vision will be essential to guide the company on a journey that will yield even more positive social, environmental, and economic contributions”.
In his statement, Abreu emphasized: “We reaffirm our commitment to being a transformative agent, expanding into new biomass markets and solidifying our position as a reference in sustainable solutions. We will continue to innovate and strengthen strategic partnerships to build a better and more sustainable future for society”.
Abreu holds a degree in Production Engineering from PUC-Rio and an MBA in Management from Fundação Dom Cabral. He has furthered his education with executive programs at IMD Business School and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. At 53 years old, Abreu is married and the father of three children.
