Kruger Products Sherbrooke tissue plant awarded at Les Mercuriades Gala

The facility won a Mercure award in the Economic and Regional Development Contribution category

After announcing that its Sherbrooke tissue plant was selected as a finalist in the 2023 edition of the prestigious Les Mercuriades business competition in two categories, Kruger Products now announces that it has won the award in the Economic and Regional Development Contribution category at the 43rd gala of the prestigious industry competition of the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ).

According to the company, building this state-of-the-art tissue paper plant in Sherbrooke, QC has resulted in $600 million in investments, and the creation of 180 high-quality permanent jobs, contributing directly to the economic vitality of the Estrie region. The construction site, which mobilizes approximately 1,700 workers, was completed on time and on budget despite the significant challenges caused by the pandemic throughout the work.

“The entire team at Kruger Products Sherbrooke is extremely proud to receive these awards. It is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the remarkable work done since the very beginning of the project, as well as the deep and lasting ties between our company and the Estrie region. Our plant, with Canada’s largest and most modern through-air-dry (TAD) tissue machine, has been operating beyond expectations since its commissioning. Its cutting-edge equipment enables us to offer our North American clients products of unparalleled quality,” said Patrice Bégin, Vice President, Manufacturing, Estrie Region, Kruger Products

Endowed with technology and artificial intelligence devices, the facility manufactures premium Cashmere UltraLuxe® bathroom tissue and SpongeTowels UltraPro® paper towels.

“The success of our Sherbrooke plant is a collective achievement for the entire company and the community in which we operate. We are delighted to manufacture in Sherbrooke high-quality products for everyday life and offer brands that Quebecers recognize and appreciate,” commented Michel Manseau, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Consumer Products – Canada, Kruger Products

Kruger Products will also grow its operations in Brompton in 2024 with an expansion project that includes a new mill equipped with a double-width tissue machine, and the installation of two additional converting lines, one in the existing TAD mill and the other in the new mill. This expansion project will create over 140 extra permanent jobs and position the Estrie region as a major tissue product manufacturing hub in North America.
