Metsä Tissue receives EcoVadis Platinum level

The company is among the top one per cent of all the companies rated by EcoVadis

Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, have received the highest Platinum rating for the third time in a row in EcoVadis sustainability and social responsibility evaluation. The company is among the top one per cent of all the companies rated by EcoVadis, and once again scored highly in each of the four themes assessed, performing best in the environment section with a score of 90/100.

“We’re pleased and proud to have received a Platinum rating from EcoVadis for the third consecutive year. Despite stricter scoring, we managed to exceed the requirements for a Platinum rating and improved our results from last year,” says Esa Kaikkonen, Metsä Tissue’s CEO. “We take this as proof of the excellence of our sustainability work, rated highly by an impartial party. We’ve demonstrated that we have an advanced sustainability management system that covers all the four themes addressed.”

“This provides an excellent foundation for the further development of our sustainability work. I wish to express my warm thanks to our internal and external stakeholders, who have contributed to the achievement of this excellent result,” he completed.

Metsä Tissue aims to promote the bioeconomy and circular economy by efficiently processing northern wood into first class tissue and greaseproof paper products.

According to the company, their sustainability objectives encourage them to pursue continuous improvement, as they aim for fossil free mills and products by 2030. In addition, Metsä Tissue’s objectives include ambitious measures to ensure that operations are ethical, and that the workplace is safe.

EcoVadis provides international corporate sustainability ratings and has developed a platform that enables companies to assess their suppliers’ performance in environmental and social responsibility worldwide. The assessments are based on four themes: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
