Tork reduces carbon footprint of hand towels and napkins by up to 21%

Essity’s professional hygiene brand expands sustainability initiatives and provides new tools to support customers’ environmental goals

Tork, the professional hygiene brand of Essity, announced a reduction of up to 21% in the carbon footprint of several of its most widely used hand towel and napkin products. The initiative is part of the company’s decarbonization strategy and aims to provide customers with lower-impact products while maintaining the same quality and performance.

The announcement was made during the Green Sports Alliance Summit, a leading event focused on sustainability in the sports industry. During the presentation, Tork executives highlighted the results achieved through the company’s long-standing collaboration with the Philadelphia Eagles, a partnership that has supported the team’s sustainability efforts for more than 20 years.

According to the company, the implementation of Tork solutions is expected to help the Eagles reduce approximately 6,303 kilograms of CO₂ equivalent emissions related to hand towel and napkin use in 2026. This reduction is comparable to avoiding more than 16,000 miles driven by a gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.

The carbon footprint reductions apply to several key product lines, including Tork PeakServe hand towels, which achieved a 21% reduction; Tork Xpress multifold hand towels, with a 16% reduction; Tork Matic hand towels, with a 15% reduction; and Tork Xpressnap and Xpressnap Fit napkins, which recorded a 20% decrease.

The company attributes these improvements to ongoing investments in decarbonization initiatives, including the use of renewable electricity, increased production efficiency, lower energy consumption, and optimized packaging solutions.

In addition to the product improvements, Tork announced updates to its Tork Focus4 Sustainability platform, launched in late 2025. The platform now includes carbon emission reports based on actual product usage, sustainability-focused product documentation, and new educational modules on decarbonization through the Tork Sustainability Academy.

According to the company, these resources are designed to help organizations make more informed decisions regarding consumption, waste management, and environmental performance while supporting their own sustainability objectives.
