UPM appoints Joonas Rauramo as Executive Vice President of UPM Energy

The Finnish executive will assume the role on October 1, 2026, joining the Group Executive Team to support the company’s energy business strategy and growth

UPM has announced the appointment of Joonas Rauramo as Executive Vice President of UPM Energy, effective October 1, 2026. In his new role, Rauramo will join the Group Executive Team and report directly to President and CEO Massimo Reynaudo.

Based in Helsinki, Rauramo joins UPM from Coolbrook Oy, where he has served as Chief Executive Officer since 2022. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Vice President of Strategy and Industrial Partnerships at the company.

Before joining Coolbrook, Rauramo spent more than a decade at Fortum, holding several leadership positions within the energy sector. His most recent roles included Vice President of Wind Power and Vice President of Solar and Wind Development.

 

In addition to his executive experience, Rauramo serves on the Board of Directors of Korkia and is a member of the International Energy Agency’s Technology and Innovation Advisory Board. He holds a Master of Science in Technology from Helsinki University of Technology and a Master of Science in Economics from Aalto University School of Business.

According to UPM, the appointment comes at a time of growing demand for reliable, emission-free electricity and significant transformation across global energy systems. The company highlighted Rauramo’s expertise in power generation, industrial decarbonization, project financing, mergers and acquisitions, and the development of international partnerships.

Through this appointment, UPM aims to further strengthen its energy business and support the transition toward more sustainable and resilient energy
